Dec 30, 2010 Hello everyone. I have taken forensic image of an harddisk with MacQuisition CF. Extension of the image files are.dmg. Can anyone help me how can i. I followed the instructions for plugging in the My Book external drive, and I can see the manufacturer’s contents, but I can’t do anything with the drive. No installation programs pop up, and none are visible on in my applications folder or any where else on my iMac. The manual says that there should be a “WD Apps Set Up file” that I can click on and click through, but there is nothing.
The Wood of Sharp Teeth is home to a number of intelligent humanoid species. Satyrs are found here in large numbers, as are their reported counterparts, the dryads. It is also believed that a number of wolfwere clans call the Wood of Sharp Teeth home. Dec 08, 2014 The Dungeon Master's Guide, the last of the core rulebooks in the 5th edition of the classic tabletop roleplaying game Dungeons & Dragons, will hit the street tomorrow. Its release marks the. First of all, there may be an optional rule in the Dungeon Master's Guide for what you're trying to do (say, a 'Sanity' mechanic or firearms), People all the time ask about making combat more interesting for Fighters - check out the 'Disarm' and other optional combat maneuvers. Flanking rules. Gritty long rest mechanics.

Wow, great hint. This is going to go to good use. Thanks!
Restore a full-disk .dmg file to a raw block device
Somehow I thought that was what the menu item Images -> Scan Image for Restore always did.. but I suppose there has been at least one occasion where this may have actually been what I needed.

Happily, I've never found myself in a position where I needed to restore my backup image files, (made with Carbon Copy Cloner.) But I'd like to know the routine if I ever need to use it.
My question: since I back up separate partitions into separate disk image files, is this hint inapplicable to me? Does this hint only apply to backing up multiple partitions into a single disk image?
(I had no idea it was even possible to backup multiple partitions to a single disk image..)

This is great. I was getting real frustrated with Disk Utility's non-specific error messages. This worked just like you said it would.
Restore a full-disk .dmg file to a raw block device
Great post. However, when I tried this I got a 'Resource busy' error.
In order to avoid this problem, you have to make sure the mac OS isn't 'using' the device first. To do this just open the DiskUtility.app, and on the target USB hard drive, unmount any of it's partitions. Make sure to not eject the USB hard drive so that the device is still available in DiskUtility and shows up in the result from 'diskutil list'.

Restore a full-disk .dmg file to a raw block device
Many thanks to you and daveosborne for your hints !
1) I'm currently dumping the content of a .dmg file to an external disk.
2) 'with an appropriate buffer size to copy over the whole block image, including partition table and boot sector'
-> what do you mean by that and how can I determine which buffer size is appropriate ?
-> how did you determine the 131072 size ?
For my use I trusted blindly the example and used the bs=131072 option. Untill now it seems to be working.. (it's still copying).
I'm currenlty getting tons of lines on my terminal screen that look like :
..
CZlibDecompressor::decompressData: src 0x02E4AA97 srcLen 116073
CZlibDecompressor::decompressData: dest 0x02E26000 destLen 262144
CZlibDecompressor::decompressData: src 0x02E61F0D srcLen 20723
CZlibDecompressor::decompressData: dest 0x02E26000 destLen 262144
..
with sometimes long series of
..
CZlibDecompressor::decompressData: src 0x02E66B71 srcLen 1167
CZlibDecompressor::decompressData: dest 0x02E26000 destLen 262144
CZlibDecompressor::decompressData: src 0x02E66B71 srcLen 1167
CZlibDecompressor::decompressData: dest 0x02E26000 destLen 262144
..
I notice the destLen (I suppose it means block destination length) 262144 is exactly the double of the bs=131072 that was used before. I'm curious if anyone can help me understand this. Does this mean the source data is sparsed over the destination disk by blocks of 131072 or 262144 bytes, thereby fragmenting the disk ?
In your replies, please kindly take into account that I'm a French newbie with a fair level of ignorance of OSX command line technical slang, however not completely ignorant with computers either (one piece of paper even says I'm an engineer :), it's just that I don't understand what the buffer size technically means here.
Many thanks in advance for your insights !

1: Introduction – About DD Converter
What is DD Converter?
DD Converter is a simple Macintosh application for quickly converting a dd image, supported by most of the computer forensics applications, to Macintosh dmg image. Both dd and dmg are RAW Image Format used to store a disk or volume image. The RAW Image Format is basically a bit-for-bit copy of the RAW data of either the disk or the volume, without any additions or deletions. DD Converter will also perform conversion of split RAW, or multiple segment files.
DD Converter is extremely straightforward to handle. The easy-to-use interface allows the conversion to complete in just a few clicks.
DD Converter Features
Written specifically for Mac OS X, DD Converter includes powerful features that give the investigator a quick and easy way to convert RAW data image between dd format and the Mac OS-centric dmg format.
DD Converter will just perform a rename of the original file and will not affect the HASH value of the file.
2: Getting Started – The Basics of DD Converter
System Requirements
DD Converter is programmed to run on the following minimum specification:
- Intel based Dual Core Apple Macintosh CPU, that is capable of running
- Mac OS X (version 10.6 or above), with at least
- 1 GB of RAM
- Hard Disk (with 30 mb of space free for installation)
Installing or Updating via Download
Once the software has been downloaded from the site and decompressed, the user can drag and drop DD Converter from the mounted disk image into the Applications folder. If prompted to replace the existing version of the file, click Replace.
Initial Setup
The first time the application is launched the user will be asked to accept the End User License Agreement and then to enter a valid registration number.
Having done entering the serial number the user will then be taken to the Main Window.

Once you click on the Convert DD <-> DMG button, a choose file window will pop up allowing you to select either dd image or dmg image. Click on Open will proceed to convert the image to the other format.
Selecting a dmg image to convert to dd
To convert from dd to dmg, make sure you remove the chain of custody text file before you run it.
DD Converter will just perform a rename of the original file and will not affect the HASH value of the file.
In order to view E01 files, you will need to convert them to dd (using FTK Imager or other conversion utilities), then from dd to dmg.
